Yung

An indie rock quartet who merge driving dance-rock with lush, brooding post-punk proclivities, Yung is led by singer and songwriter Mikkel Holm Silkjær. The Danish group's international full-length debut, Youthful Dream, appeared in 2016.

Hailing from Aarhus, Denmark, Holm was raised in a musical family; his father was a member of Studson, his uncle owned a record store, and his mother was involved with local music venues. Holm began learning guitar at ten years old, and while he temporarily shunned music as an act of teenage defiance, he eventually began making his own tracks, discovering he shared the familial passion for music all along. By the time he was 16, he was fronting his first band, Danish hardcore act Urban Achievers. It wasn't until his father accidently stumbled across some demos stored on Holm's laptop that Yung was set in motion. The hook-laden cuts didn't fit in with any of Holm's active projects, so he decided that they needed a platform of their own.

Holm began assembling a band to perform live as Yung, including Frederik Nybo Veile on drums and Tobias Guldberg Tarp on bass, both of whom performed as part of Snarehats. The trio were soon joined by Emil Zethsen, who provided additional guitar work. Their debut album, Falter, was only released in Denmark, although in 2015, the record was shortened into an EP and renamed Alter for international release. In September the same year, they delivered a second EP, These Thoughts Are Like Mandatory Chores, closely followed by their first official international album, 2016's Youthful Dream. It was released by <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Fat+Possum%22">Fat Possum</a> in the U.K. and <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Tough+Love+Records%22">Tough Love Records</a> in North America.

After moving to the Stockholm-based <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22PNKSLM%22">PNKSLM</a> label, Yung returned with a 7", "Progress" b/w "New Fast Song," in September 2020.
