5 Billion in Diamonds is a transatlantic musical alliance of Garbage drummer and
legendary US producer Butch Vig (Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins), UK
DJ James Grillo and Bristol UK producer Andy Jenks.
Beginning as a tribute to the music that inspired them the band weaves modern
techniques and fresh music into an early 70’s sun-drenched soundtrack of rock, folk,
and psychedelia.
The band have created 2 LPs so far and have recruited singers along the way
including Viking rock god Ebbot Lundberg (The Soundtrack of Our Lives), Bristolian
chanteuse Helen White, David Schelzel (The Ocean Blue), Sandra Dedrick (The
Free Design), James Bagshaw (Temples) and Martin Barnard (Alpha).
To complete the sound, they called upon the services of friends including guitarists
Alex Lee (Goldfrapp), Damian O'Neill (Undertones), Pete Aves (High Llamas), bass
player Sean Cook & drummer Damon Reece (Suns Signature), flautist Helen
Whitaker (Leisure Society) and harpist Mary Lattimore.
May 2024 sees them release a new single ‘Waiting to Land’ and this time around
they have added some desert dust in to their sound with a session at Rancho De La
Luna where Dave Catching (Eagles of Death Metal, QOTSA) contributed guitar, the
song also features Bradley Hanan Carter (FAUX PRIX, NO, Steriogram) on vocals
and Brian Aubert (Silversun Pickups) on bass.
