Liima (Finnish for "glue") is a collaborative project between Casper Clausen, Mads Brauer, and Rasmus Stolberg -- all co-founders of Danish indie electronic group Efterklang -- along with Finnish jazz percussionist Tatu Rönkkö. Like Efterklang, Liima utilizes soaring vocals, samples, and delicate electronic beats, but it has much more of a free, improvisatory nature. The quartet was established in July of 2014 when the Danish musicians were invited to perform at Our Festival in Finland. The group spontaneously wrote material for the event, and enjoying their creative freedom, they continued performing together at various venues and festivals across Europe. Liima recorded their debut album in Berlin with producer Jonas Verwijnen in 2015; titled ii, it was issued by 4AD in March of 2016. During the tours for ii, Liima began to workshop new material both at traditional venues and at unusual spots like hotel kitchens and daytime concerts at schools in remote parts of northern Norway. The songs developed during this period were eventually recorded at a studio in the Finnish countryside and released by the City Slang label as 1982, the band's second long-player. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
