Albany Lore is the music project of South African musician Matthew Rightford. As a singer and a saxophonist, he is making sophisti-pop music flooded with influences from jazz, hip-hop, RnB, funk, soul and kwaito/pantsula.

His performance, first unleashed in June 2018, combines passion and groove to bring all of these influences into a cohesive capturing of the soul - landing him a spot on MyCityByNight's 'Ten South African Artists to Keep An Eye On in 2019'. Having co-founded and co-run a Cape Town-based label called naas, an online music publication called Platform, and with production credits on numerous acclaimed South African singles (with artists like Darkie Fiction, Mx Blouse, Thor Rixon and Yum Yuck), Albany Lore is the culmination of all these things – his experiences, his learning, his lore - at a time where he's never been more excited about making music.

His debut EP, 'As you were, groove.' was released in November 2019. The lead single, 'Payphone,' was playlisted on local and national radio stations with its video landing a spot in Texx and the City's 'Best of 2019: Indie Music Videos.' His latest and first single of 2020, 'Gravity,' is now available - released through Kudukudu Records and Platoon.
