Danish composer, pianist and producer Asger Baden has made a name for himself as a film and TV-series composer with his atmospheric music featured in world-acclaimed productions such as “Better Call Saul”, “Breaking Bad” and “The Wolfpack”.
His new album is entitled “For The Slumberless” – and as the name suggests, it’s dedicated to all the sleepless souls out there. The music is a tribute to the twilight zone between sleep and wakefulness – the hypnagogic state. In this elusive no man’s land, a crack opens into the subconscious, where time distorts, place dissolves, and reality begins to shimmer. It is a space that feels magical, unsettling, wondrous—and almost impossible to hold onto. This music is an attempt to do just that.
The music drifts through this liminal space with jazzy melancholy. Too unstable to be lullabies, too ambiguous to fully anchor you – it evokes the feeling of being half-awake in the middle of the night, when your thoughts lose their logic and dissolve like vapor.
Asger Baden weaves acoustic textures with his signature production wizardry, creating a soundscape that feels both intimate and cinematic. There’s the paradoxical sense of homeyness and unease throughout, as if each motif is a fleeting memory or a fragment of a half-forgotten dream.
“For the Slumberless” invites you to linger in the in-between.
