Celsa Maxwell

Celsa Maxwell is a Belgium based songwriter. Her music is dreamy, cinematic, and roams without boundaries or rules. Intrigued by the spiritual, magical, the unknown, the occult, and inspired by the groove of late 60s culture, illusions of old Hollywood, and the splendour of historical tales and fashions, she is sucked into a dark mirror that lies beneath these grand times. At its core is the craft of classic songwriting moved by her love for songwriting fathers like Bob Dylan, Nick Drake, and Jackson C. Frank. It all melts into a soundtrack for a Hitchcock-esque fever dream, a David Lynch-like reflection of brightness and the darkness of midnight on a moonless night.

At age sixteen Celsa moved to Brighton, UK, where she studied songwriting at the British Institute of Modern Music (BIMM). (Fellow alumni include : George Ezra, James Bay, Skunk Anansie, The Kooks, etc.)

After suffering a sudden deafness episode in late 2019, which left her single-sided deaf, Celsa spent the entirety of 2020 adjusting to her new hearing situation. Coinciding with the world’s isolation, she determinately returned to music and ended up writing and recording her debut album which is due for release this Autumn. Everything is recorded by Celsa herself embracing a lo-fi sound as she believes the true sentiments of music lie in its imperfections.
