From the late sixties onward, the Dahlak Band (ዳህላክ ባንድ) lit up Addis Ababa with a dynamic mix of rhythm and blues, soul, funk, and the emerging sounds of the disco era — all blended with modern Ethiopian styles. They served up majestic concoctions with full-range instrumentation, showcasing the band’s signature sound led by Tilaye Gebre (tenor and alto saxophone), Dawit Yifru (organ), Dawit Kassa (electric guitar), Shimelis Beyene (trumpet), Moges Habte (tenor saxophone), Abera Feyissa (bass guitar), Tasfaye Tessema (drums), and Muluken Melesse (percussions).
