There are artists who adapt to the times, and those who forge their own. David Shaw is unquestionably the latter.
Born in Manchester and branded by the counter-cultures of his teenage years - rave, punk, shoegaze and industrial -
he has built a body of work that operates entirely outside conventional formats. First a member of Blackstrobe (guitars, bass & keys live & studio) - album ‘’Burn Your Own Church’’ (2007) on Beggars Banquet, alongside Ivan Smagghe and Arnaud Rebotini.
He became independent with David Shaw And The Beat's first album, So It Goes (2012), a personal manifesto of a vocal techno tinged with new wave. With the ''Jenks'' album (2014) of his DBFC project (with Dombrance), and the long tour that followed, he confirmed his desire to explode the chapels and play urgent music that belongs to him alone. One foot in the punk electricity, and another in club hedonism (he also collaborated with Jennifer Cardini with their side project, Cardini & Shaw ‘’In The Ballroom’’ Ep, and Vitalic ‘’Waiting For The Stars’’ and produced some electronic & techno EPs under the alias Siskid. Today a solo force, as David Shaw And The Beat, whose albums ‘’Love Songs With A Kick’’ (Vol 1, 2, & 3) have established him as one of the most incendiary songwriters and producers on the current scene. Open Wide, extracted from his latest album, is David Shaw at his most urgent and seductive - an accelerated, synthetic
incantation blending goth punk vocals with minimal wave acid.
