"Sepulchral brilliance" Sunday Times // "Raw and narcotic" FACT // "Deeply enticing” Clash

Detachments are a post-punk-inflected Synth Wave/ Cold Wave electronic/art-rock group. The sound is often dystopian and shadowy, the contemporary human condition - the ghost in the machine.

Formed North/East London and led by Bastien Marshal (born Manchester).

Their limited 12" Fear No Fear drew exceptional praise, including The Times’ Single of the Day. Further singles produced by Trevor Jackson, secured NME Radio A-List rotation, BBC Radio 1’s Alternative Single of the Week, and a spot in NME’s 10 Tracks You Have To Hear. Songs produced by James Ford, earned support from Zane Lowe and featured Martyn’s acclaimed remix on Fabric 50. Also championed by Huw Stephens, with an Andrew Weatherall disco-dub mix - regarded as one of his finest.

Their self-titled debut album, produced by James Ford, defined a Minimal-Wave/Coldwave identity and built a dedicated international underground following, with The Guardian placing them at the top of its Best New Bands list.

Peter Hook performed with the group, leading to the Fade EP on Hacienda Records (eventually Bastien sang for Peter Hook’s Joy Division Orchestrated at exalted venues including the Royal Albert Hall and Sydney Opera House).
Further praise followed with the Endgame EP and the club-driven Chain of Command EP on Young & Cold Records.
