Originally under the moniker MK Ultra, Doubledrive's heavier rock influence first hit their hometown of Atlanta, GA, in 1996 with their lineup consisting of Troy McLawhorn (guitar), Joshua Sattler (bass), Mike Froedge (drums), and Donnie Hamby (vocal). For the three years that followed, Doubledrive's van would take them to gigs all throughout the Southeastern United States. This method of constant touring not only resulted wide in recognition for their recurring club appearances, but also an award for Atlanta's "favorite metal/extreme" category in 1998.
