Dr Duda is one of the most recognisable faces and voices of dance music across South Africa and beyond. He plays various musical instruments, but his strength is the keyboard and saxophone. He was given the trading name ‘Duda’ by Mr Pat Mahlangu because he felt he was good at music, which the latter compared to the instrument in the fruity loops software called ‘Duda’. After meeting him, DJ M was impressed after receiving his demo CDs and further encouraged Duda to work very hard and fortunately, he obliged. DJ Mbuso rewarded his hard work by selecting one track called ‘Kasie kultcha’ produced by Duda in DJ Mandla’s album titled ‘Jozi Knights’ in 2005. He (Mbuso) further went on to put the other popular song called ‘Anthem’ in DJ Fresh’s album titled ‘Definition of House Vol. 2’. It is impossible to imagine the illustrious, multi-platinum and multi-award-winning South African assemblage called Mi Casa without Dr Duda, himself a SAMA nominee for Best Dance Album SAMA 1 3 (House Prescription with Dr Mbee). Renowned for their unforgettable performances, Mi Casa is a cosmopolitan, sought-after eclectic band which has released six albums to date, the albums whose production, or management, mixing, musical direction and synchronisation are the work of the adept Dr Duda.
