Grand Rapids, Michigan's Heaters play a heavily atmospheric yet driving brand of psychedelic garage rock influenced by surf and Krautrock. The group consists of Nolan Krebs, Joshua Korf, Ryan Hagan, and Ben Taber. Initially known as Plantains, they became Heaters with the release of 2014's Solstice, and continued to refine their sound with subsequent releases such as 2017's Matterhorn and 2018's Suspended Youth.
Krebs and high-school classmate Andrew Tamlyn moved to Grand Rapids in 2013 and formed a band called Plantains when they met Korf, who lived next door to them. Stolen Body Records released the group's split LP with Os Noctàmbulos in early 2014, but Plantains changed their name to Heaters. Dizzybird Records issued Solstice, the band's full-length debut. The group soon caught the attention of Brooklyn's Beyond Beyond Is Beyond Records, who issued the single "Mean Green" and full-length Holy Water Pool in 2015. Third album Baptistina arrived less than a year later.
Following 2017's Fuzz Club Session EP, the band's four-piece lineup (including Hagan and Taber) made its full-length debut with 2017's Matterhorn. Krebs relocated to Montreal, but the band continued writing and recording music, and Heaters' fifth album, Suspended Youth, appeared in 2018. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
