JACOB MÜHLRAD is a celebrated Swedish art music composer, born 1991, who has rapidly emerged as one of the most recognizable composers in Europe. Mühlrad's debut album on Deutsche Grammophon, Time, received a 5-star BBC Music Magazine review. He’s been described as "one of the world's most imaginative orchestral composers".
Mühlrad has collaborated with musicians such as Martin Fröst, Olga Neuwirth, Matthias Pintscher, and Pablo Heras-Casado, and has received major commissions and been performed by institutions including Radio France, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra.
He works fluidly across genres, collaborating with Swedish House Mafia, Anyma, and 070 Shake. His track One Symphony with Swedish House Mafia shook both electronic and classical music circles. In 2024, he collaborated with Anyma on an immersive multimedia show at the Sphere in Las Vegas. That same year, he co-wrote, co-produced, and played piano on two tracks from 070 Shake’s album Petrichor: “Sin”and “Blood on Your Hands”.
Mühlrad has written extensively for chamber ensembles and orchestras, as well as for theatre and film.
Through choral music, he has been able to achieve a unique expression of the mystical aspect of Jewish tradition. Kaddish holds a deeply personal connection to the composer; it tells the story of his grandfather's survival of the Holocaust.
