Johan Famaey is a Belgian pianist, award‑winning composer, and yangqin player. Since 2023, he has been the music director of the World Piano Day Festival at AMUZ Antwerp, where he curates and performs symphonic programmes that return annually.

His journey spans Europe, USA and China, from a 2008 debut with Qingdao Symphony Orchestra at Beijing’s National Grand Theatre to concerts in Antwerp with conductor <a href="spotify:artist:34bKiLjmHfp1mAX5Tq3d2y" data-name="Dirk Brossé">Dirk Brossé</a> , plus a 2025 duo recital at Barcelona’s Petit Palau in the Palau de la Música Catalana and appearances with orchestras in China (Beijing) and the USA (Greeley/Denver).

A major recent focus is his duo with Spanish violinist <a href="spotify:artist:3GbLJKxosQ6Vv7Y4bPLlMN" data-name="Marina Martín Maldonado">Marina Martín Maldonado</a> . Renowned for their synergy, they present original works bridging tradition and modernity, and tour both intimate and large venues.

Famaey composes musicals, piano solos, chamber and symphonic works, weaving Chinese influences and instruments like erhu, pipa, yangqin, guzheng, xiao. His style led to commissions from Silk String Quartet (UK), Tangram (UK), Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès (Spain), Embassy of China in Belgium, and work with choirs in Belgium and Barcelona.
