Jones Jnr make the kind of music that soundtracks a really good day. The alt soul duo is made
up of Sydney heavyweight producer DJ Morgs (Thundamentals) and vocalist Ev Jones,
childhood friends from their soccer days in the Blue Mountains outside Sydney.
Morgs brings hip hop sensibilities and classic styling to the table – a little choir breakdown here,
some organic percussion there – to the vocal calisthenics of Jones, who can leap from a velvety
falsetto to a boisterous chorus without missing a beat, laying down lush harmonies in between.
Their debut album “Grow” was released in Feb 2020, right before the world went into lockdown.
But creativity thrives in high-pressure environments and
the band have already produced a new EP set for release in Australian summer 2020.
You could have caught the pair playing alongside Mark Ronson on his arena tour, supporting
Kelis, playing Perth Festival with Charles Bradley, or touring round the country twice with Fat
Freddy’s Drop. And if Ev Jones also looks familiar, it might be that earworm ‘Like A Version’
cover of Matt Corby’s Brother that you’re thinking of.
Jones Jnr make music that spans moods and locations. They can wind you down, perk you up
and fill the part that’s missing. They’re tunes that make you feel seen, and the promise that
“everything’s going to be fine” is exactly what we all need right now.
