LAU

LAU (Pronounced /lɑu:/) is Laura Fares, an Argentinean singer, songwriter, drummer, producer and prominent figure in the Synthwave and Retrowave scenes, currently based in Barcelona, after two decades in London. Her music blends Retrowave and Synthpop with a strong 80s influence.



In a past musical life, she wrote 3 albums for <a href="spotify:artist:31KAV0Dg1UNmnfSmvLT2XG" data-name="NINA">NINA</a> and she drummed for some big pop stars like <a href="spotify:artist:0H0rBbf7vHXO3qh50Wap7y" data-name="Sam Sparro">Sam Sparro</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:7slfeZO9LsJbWgpkIoXBUJ" data-name="Ricky Martin">Ricky Martin</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6MDME20pz9RveH9rEXvrOM" data-name="Clean Bandit">Clean Bandit</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:6MF9fzBmfXghAz953czmBC" data-name="Taio Cruz">Taio Cruz</a>.


LAU&#39;s debut single <a href="spotify:track:4Er3sEJvGFGUhkLHG74qXQ" data-name="Stunning">Stunning</a> has over 2.4M plays already, included in her debut album <a href="spotify:track:6uDBNpoYGvhjuGKkbOyViU" data-name="Believer">Believer</a>. LAU’s second album <a href="spotify:track:1xmD33cPvrZmHmjW4oOozB" data-name="Circumstance">Circumstance</a> released in 2022, reached #7 in the UK on the Apple Music Electronic Album Charts.


LAU’s music has appeared on the Victoria’s Secret winter ad campaign and she has appeared in publications such as Billboard, Rolling Stone, Mixmag, DJ Mag, Marie Claire and many others. She&#39;s also written the theme songs for the VICE UNDERCOVER game out n 2025.

LAU is also Creative Director at Aztec Records, a UK record label she co-funded in 2010.


In 2022 LAU was selected as a Keychange artist, a EU talent development programme that promotes gender minorities in music. She’s also been nominated for the Spanish Independent Music Awards in 2021 and 2022 (Best Artist and Best Album), and the BIME Equity Awards in 2022 (Best Song).
