Max de Wardener is a composer, arranger and bassist from the UK. He has worked in numerous and contrasting musical environments, from film scores and classical commissions to performing at international electronic music festivals, building his own instruments and playing bass in Zimbabwean mbira bands.
He has worked with Gazelle Twin, Matthew Herbert, Plaid, Oliver Coates, LSO and BBCCO among others. His film music credits include two films scores for acclaimed Polish director Pawel Pawlikovski (Last Resort and Woman in the fifth), as well as various feature documentaries for filmmakers such as Sarah Gavron and Jerry Rothwell.
More recently, Max has finished recording an album of unusually tuned piano music for Kit Downes (ECM), as well as an album of compositions, Kolmar, for Cristal Baschet and Ondes Martenot performed by Thomas Bloch for Village Green Records.
