Mitchell Dancik and The Senators started on the streets of New York City, and are now based in North Carolina. Their music tells the whole sordid tale of their North/South adventures. Their peak years are NOW, as they’ve released 14 albums since 2010. But it’s a long story…
In the 1970’s, Mitchell Dancik’s band “Just Water” were a constant presence at the famed NY clubs CBGB’s and Max’s Kansas City. They scored a regional hit single with “Singin’ In The Rain”. Dancik now leads Mitchell Dancik and The Senators as well as Just Water, and operates Pie Man Sound recording studio in Cary, North Carolina. Dancik is a multi-instrumentalist, and has written more than 300 songs. Although he came up through the NYC punk/new wave scene, his music covers a wide range of styles including highly melodic vocal and instrumental pieces, story songs, folk-rock, and eclectic pop. Career highlights include a teenage tour of duty as a roadie with The Who. Dancik's songs have recently appeared in the TV shows The Righteous Gemstones, Mr Robot and Chicago Fire. Dancik is currently recording local young artists, bandmate Danny Rubin and several new Senators recordings. A Just Water album (Start a Band), with original members was released in January 2024, with a new Senators album coming soon!
The name "Senators" came about when punk legend Johnny Thunders said he was forming a band called The Senators. Johnny wound up naming his band The Criminals and Mitch stole The Senators. Same meaning!
