1980年、音楽一家に生まれ、東京とNYで育つ。1997年「Ryuichi Sakamoto feat. Sister M」名義で歌手デビュー。
音楽活動にとどまらず、ラジオやテレビの司会、ナレーション、執筆、演劇など表現の幅を広げている。
2011年からはTOKYOFM/JFN系全国ネット『坂本美雨のディアフレンズ』のパーソナリティを担当。 2024年よりNHK Eテレ「日曜美術館」司会に就任。
東京2020パラリンピック開会式では、パラ楽団のヴォーカルとして 参加。動物愛護活動をライフワークとし、著書『ネコの吸い方』や、愛猫“サバ美”が話題となり、“ネコの人”としても知られる。また、児童虐待を減らすための『こどものいのちはこどものもの』の発起人の一人でもある。
2022年には東京新聞朝刊での連載「こそだて日記」に加え、娘との日々を綴ったエッセイ「ただ、一緒に生きている」を刊行。
映画『国宝』の主題歌、原摩利彦「Luminance feat.井口理」では作詞を手がける。
近年は、イスラエル軍の長年の占領と虐殺により甚大な被害を受けているパレスチナ自治区の人道支援にも力を注いでいる。
Born on May 1, 1980. Her father is Ryuichi Sakamoto, and her mother is Akiko Yano. She made her debut as a singer under the name of “Ryuichi Sakamoto feat. Sister M.” Since then, she started her singing career under her real name. In addition to being a musician, she is also a writer, narrator and theater actor. She has hosted a nationwide radio program , “Dear Friends” (Tokyo FM, etc.) since 2011.
At the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony, she performed as the vocalist for the Para Orchestra.Committed to animal welfare as her life’s work, she is also known as a devoted “cat lover.”She actively supports initiatives aimed at preventing child abuse.
Since 2006, she has also performed as part of the duo Ooame (Yuichi Ohata + Miu Sakamoto).
She wrote the lyrics for “Luminance feat. Satoru Iguchi” by Marihiko Hara, the theme song for the upcoming film “Kokuho”.
In recent years, she has also devoted her efforts to humanitarian support for Palestine.
