Myztro, real name Tshiamiso Sekowe, has been a leading tastemaker in the dynamic and hyper-productive amapiano scene throughout his illustrious career. The Pretoria, Soshanguve-born producer/DJ’s first foray into music was at 10 years old — as a drummer and pianist at his local church. His passion for music and immediate circle would inspire him to pivot towards DJing and producing during the mid-2010s. By the early 2020s, he would secure featuring credits in tracks like Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa’s bonafide hits “eMcimbini” and “Phumelela.” However, his creative union with Felo Le Tee on “66” and “Dipatje Tsa Felo” is what brought the talented musician to the forefront. From then, he would go on to courageously spearhead sub-cultures and has been a pivotal figure in sonics coming from and inspired by his home city.
In his aptly-titled debut 2022 EP ‘012 Nkwari,’ Myztro introduced his unique fusion of bacardi house and amapiano elements to the mainstream. He would explore this style further on the nostalgia-inducing thumper “Tobetsa” and sophomore EP ‘Nkwari,’ both of which made him a household name. In 2023, Myztro released and featured on back-to-back, viral street anthems such as “EVERYDAY iParty Waya Waya,” “Myztro Ah Ah,” “Kunkra,” “Howa You” and “Bhebha,” alongside Xduppy, ShaunMusiq & Ftears, who are all signed to his record label, Kgaday. Together, they helped pioneer ‘quantum sound’ — a hard-hitting, bass-driven iteration of amapiano.
