Richard Birkin is a recording artist and composer for TV and Film. His work has been recorded/performed by the London Contemporary Orchestra quartet, ISKRA Strings and Sinfonia Viva players; recorded at Abbey Road Studio 2 and Nils Frahm’s Durton Studio; featured in the Sky Atlantic/Canal+ series The Young Pope starring Jude Law; and licensed by Armani, BBC Radio 4 and NASA.

He has written original soundtracks for short films (Edith, starring Peter Mullan and Michelle Fairley), a novel (the Man-Booker nominated Reservoir 13 by Jon McGregor), a museum (a permanent musical installation in Derby Museum’s Nature Gallery) and more.

Richard also frequently experiments with music led new media – creating a touch sensitive installation for his string-quartet Night Sun, and interactive performances for his EP Songs for Spoken Words where he took control of the audience’s phones.

His critically-acclaimed work as a recording artist includes an eclectic neo-classical/ambient/post-rock meditation on a city at night (A Lullaby Hum for Tired Streets, Triste 2011), and a richly arranged and produced album for piano and string-quartet (Vigils, Reveal Records 2016).
