Rauelsson, the musical alias of Raúl Pastor Medall from Spain, began his journey in Portland, OR, evolving from lo-fi folk to more experimental, layered sounds. His 2011 collaboration with Peter Broderick, RÉPLICA (Hush), marked a shift to atmospheric instrumental music, while his 2013 album VORA (Sonic Pieces) deepened his exploration of electronic and orchestral elements. Followed by MIRALL (Sonic Pieces, 2018), an energetic yet organic collection, his sound expanded into rich, textured landscapes. In 2025, Rauelsson returns to Sonic Pieces with NIU, a minimalist, mostly acoustic album focused on simplicity and contemplation. Recorded in Sofia and Berlin, NIU blends orchestral arrangements, tender synths, brass drones, spoken word, and dreamlike noir elements. The album is accompanied by LIMESTONE GRAVITAS, an art book that expands on its poetic themes. Rauelsson’s film scores and collaborations include FROM RIVER TO SEA (Hush, 2012), EKO (Beacon Sound, 2016), A SCORE FOR DARLING (2018, Sonic Pieces, with Erik K. Skodvin), MYRIADI (2022, Beacon Sound, with Tatu Rönkkö), as well as music for the TV series ANNA (2021) and the feature film L'IMMENSITÀ (2023).
