Shreya Ghoshal

Shreya Ghoshal is an Indian vocalist of prodigious talent whose magnificent career began when she was just four years old. Born into a high-achieving family, with a father who was a nuclear engineer and a mother who was a literary scholar, she exhibited her extraordinary gift quite early in life. Under her mother's guidance, Shreya started learning Hindustani classical music in a little-known town of Kota. Her big breakthrough ensued when she was auditioned and accepted on the music talent show Sa Re Ga Ma aired on Zee TV.

Ghoshal, with her mesmerizing voice, took the competition by storm, and her journey was unstoppable ever since. She was victorious in both the 75th special children's episode and the children's mega-final of the show in 1996, at the tender age of 12. Film director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, captivated by the young talent, offered her the playback role of Paro in the hit Bollywood movie, Devdas. In 2000, she commenced her recording for the film, which was launched to public acclaim a year later.

The launch of Devdas set the pace for Shreya's soaring career, positioning her as one of the preeminent playback singers for Bollywood's elite actress circle. Her soul-stirring rendition of the song "Jaadu Hai Nasha Hai" for the 2003 film, Jism, cemented her place in national music charts while garnering immense success outside the film industry. She won an impressive eight industry awards, including the prestigious National Award in 2003.

Her most popular track, "Pal," released in 2018, has amassed over 151.5 million streams on Spotify, reflecting her widespread acceptance and appeal. To date, her songs have garnered over 3.6 billion streams on Spotify, a testament to her profound influence on the Indian and global music scenes.
