Speck Joliet is the collaborative effort of Jon Gaines and Phil Palmer. Gaines and Palmer bonded early on over their love for creating new sounds together. From bedrooms to old barns, they would find any place they could to jam ideas and write together. After unsuccessfully searching for a singer to front the group, Jon took the reigns, writing songs and singing for the first time. The more they worked together, their sound emerged: dense double tracked vocals and harmonies, swirling delays, stacked guitar layers and caffeinated drum arrangements.. Somewhere between modern psychedelic indie and alternative power ballad. The duo recorded most of their eight track debut album Sophomore at Gaines' home in Memphis in 2019. Sophomore is a guitar driven, energetic, and optimistic Gaines/Palmer production mixed and mastered by Matt Qualls at Young Avenue Sound in Memphis TN.

In 2020, Phil moved from Memphis to Nashville. Amid the chaos of the pandemic, raising families, and maintaining careers, Speck Joliet switched gears and began focusing on trying to write and record music remotely. After 3 years treading water, Gaines and Palmer had finally arrived on a body of new songs. “EOTW” is here
