Created originally in 2019 and reactivated in 2023 post COVID, Systir features six or more performers on stage. They combine contemporary performance techniques with ancient traditions, crafting an ethereal and immersive soundscape. Their repertoire draws heavily from indigenous European music, connecting medieval to modern contemporary storytelling.
Systir’s performances span original songs and arrangements alongside works by the 11th-century abbess <a href="spotify:artist:2xt1t3lfZ5FGaEKrs0jp0d" data-name="Hildegard von Bingen">Hildegard von Bingen</a> and contemporary artists such as <a href="spotify:artist:6ueGR6SWhUJfvEhqkvMsVs" data-name="Janelle Monáe">Janelle Monáe</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:1aSxMhuvixZ8h9dK9jIDwL" data-name="Kate Bush">Kate Bush</a>. Central to their music is the story behind the songs, personal and historical. Systir explore universal human emotions and experiences that resonate broadly across audiences.
Systir have toured Italy, China, Japan, Germany, Ireland, Finland and Iceland in the last two years, with performances in England, Germany, Finland, Estonia and Latvia scheduled in 2026. The group is currently completing their debut album set for release in summer 2026. Irish composer <a href="spotify:artist:6eKG1uIKALFd8eQI8JtFoD" data-name="Michael McGlynn">Michael McGlynn</a> serves as the artistic director of Systir, guiding their creative vision and providing some of his own works and arrangements to their repertoire.
