The Debonaires blend Jamaican ska, rocksteady, and reggae with American R&B, soul, and funk to form a sound entirely their own. Led by the raspy, gritty vocals of Kip Wirtzfeld and powered by a 4-piece hornline, the Debs are a musical force on any stage and in front of any crowd.
Established in Riverside, California in 1995, the Debs formed while still in high school, releasing their first album, Groovin After Sundown, in 1998. Wirtzfeld (of the Skeletones) joined the band shortly thereafter on tenor saxophone and lead vocals. The Debonaires’ sophomore release, Self Titled, was released in 2002 followed by Longshout in 2005. The group spent several years touring extensively across the United States and Canada before finally returning to the studio in 2013. Their fourth studio album, Movin’, features guest vocalists Angelo Moore of Fishbone, Vic Ruggiero of The Slackers, and acoustic Ska veteran Chris Murray. In 2018, the Debs toured Europe and released a 14-track anthology, Listen Forward, on Grover Records.
The Debonaires have had the honor of sharing the stage with many of the very Jamaican legends whose music inspired them to form, including Desmond Dekker, the Skatalites, Justin Hinds, Phyllis Dillon, and Derrick Morgan, as well as modern acts The Specials, Fishbone, Hepcat, Easy Star All-Stars, The Slackers, The Aggrolites, The Toasters, and Voodoo Glow Skulls.
