Based in Stockholm, Sweden, the Late Call is the artistic moniker of German singer/songwriter Johannes Mayer. He made his debut in 2009 with Leaving Notes, a collection of warm, introspective, indie folk songs that showed off his rich voice and thoughtful songwriting. His 2010 follow-up, You Already Have a Home, followed suit, building on a classic singer/songwriter sound that recalled vintage <a href="spotify:artist:3JulrApLVT81sb2HkfwMks">John Martyn</a> mixed with occasional Americana elements. By the time of 2012's Pale Morning Light, his sound had been fleshed out a bit more with added percussion, piano, and even more strings. Searching to alter his sound even further, Mayer spent 2014 putting together a proper band to back him up, resulting in his more lushly arranged, gently rocking fourth album, 2015's Golden. ~ Timothy Monger, Rovi
