Founded by award-winning DJ and producer DJ Jazzy Jeff, the PLAYLIST is a coalition of artists who are committed to preserving the integrity of music culture through inspiration, motivation and collaboration.
What started as a small gathering has grown into a movement that promotes authenticity in music and empowers
artists to remain true to their craft. DJ Jazzy Jeff had an idea to assemble a group of his peers
who are consistently pushing boundaries with music. He believed that providing a space for
music creatives to bond and exchange ideas would result in something truly extraordinary. In
2015, he hosted the first PLAYLIST Retreat, a 4-day, invitation-only event that brings new and
established artists together to inspire, motivate and fuel collaboration. The success of the Retreat validated Jeff’s belief that an artist’s environment can have a huge impact on the music that’s made. It also affirmed his feeling that the music business had sucked
much of the life out of today’s music. Jeff wanted to find a way to bring the emotion and
substance back. So in February 2017, he launched the PLAYLIST Sessions. In seven days, a
collective of PLAYLIST artists came together to write, produce, record and release a full album
entitled Chasing Goosebumps. The entire creative process was documented on Facebook Live and garnered more than 3
million views. The next Sessions project, CG2 featuring Maimouna Youssef, will be released in
2020.
