Formed in South East London in 2017, The Sexton Blakes are a melodic, lyrical, guitar driven band. It was crime that brought the SBs together for they are ex-Metropolitan Police detectives.
Pooley (vocals) Nottingham-born and a London lover has led a portfolio life and is keen to sing in her own accent. She also co-wrote and recorded “Balance” by “Hello Angel”, on Fresh Music. Released through BMG in South Africa it charted on national radio.
Lee Brandon (guitar) grew up on a south London council estate, where an old hippy in a basement introduced him to guitar. The windows were smashed and the neighbours could hear his guitar in all its glory. Lee's formative years were spent listening to punk, post-punk and rock.
Del Reid (bass) is a south London boy who knew it was all about the groove and the bass when he heard “Dancing in Outer Space” by Atmosfear. Then along came Jamaican funk with Tom Browne and Funkadelic.
Steve Newbold (drums) is also Nottingham-born. Steve took up drums because noise annoys. His style is informed by late 60s counter culture psychedelia, prog rock and 80s alternative rock.
London venues: The Dublin Castle, The Water Rats and The Fiddlers Elbow, 229 The Venue, Cargo, New Cross Inn, The Workshop, Icarus Club. They play acoustic and fully amped sets.
