Heavy and melodic, True Widow began in 2007 when singer and guitarist Dan Phillips (formerly of Slowride) returned to Dallas, Texas after taking a break from music. Recruiting singer/bassist Nicole Estill and drummer Timothy Starks, the band took shape quickly, developing a sound that took its cues in equal parts from the worlds of drone, post-rock, and shoegaze, blending rumbling guitars, sprawling songs, and drifting, reverb-soaked vocals. The band released its self-titled debut in 2008, and two years later signed on with Kemado (home of fellow Texans the Sword). In 2011, the band followed up with the release of its epically titled sophomore effort, As High as the Highest Heavens and from the Center to the Circumference of the Earth. A third album, Circumambulation, followed on Relapse in 2013. The band reunited with Circumambulation producer Matt Pence for 2016's somber Avvolgere. ~ Gregory Heaney, Rovi
