After seven years and two studio albums – 1998’s Almost Here and 2000’s sorrythankyou – Unbelievable Truth called it a day in 2000. In that time, the band had developed an avid following. That first album was released on Virgin Records and reached number 21 in the UK album charts – two of its singles, ‘Higher Than Reason’ and ‘Solved’, cracked the top 40 – while the band’s second record came out on Shifty Disco, the influential indie label formed in their hometown of Oxford. That success, coupled with widespread critical acclaim, also allowed the band to developed a significant following outside of the UK, particularly in Japan. There was one posthumous record in the form of 2001’s b-sides, unreleased tracks and live show compilation Misc. Music, as well as a couple of live appearance a few years down the line.
Still, it seemed unlikely the band would get back together properly. But, as the old adage goes, never say never. In 2023, vocalist/guitarist Andy Yorke, bassist Jason Moulster and drummer Nigel Powell reunited for some gigs to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Almost Here. It was then that the seeds for the band’s new music in almost a quarter of a century took root.
Citizens Band, released in February 2025, is the first evidence of their newfound inspiration, followed by their album, Rich Inner Life, released in September 2025.
