Weeekly (위클리) is a six-piece South Korean girl group under IST Entertainment comprised of Soojin, Monday, Jihan, Zoa, Soeun, and Jaehee. Debuting in 2020 with the mini-album We Are, the group found their breakout hit with 2021's "After School," which was propelled to over 200 million streams in a year through its viral dance challenge.
Originally conceived by FAVE Entertainment in 2018 as FAVEGIRLS, the group that would go on to become Weeekly underwent a turbulent period of changes and reworks through their pre-debut. After numerous name and member changes, as well as the merger of FAVE and Plan A into IST Entertainment, the group was finally settled by May 2020 as the seven-member lineup of Soojin, Monday, Zoa, Soeun, Jaehee, Jihan, and Jiyoon, debuting under the name Weeekly. The girls' debut mini-album, We Are, led by the single "Tag Me (@Me)," arrived that June. Settling on a fandom name of 'Daileee', they were quick to issue their second mini-album, We Can, that October. The group's early sound was wide-ranging and upbeat, with highlights arriving in the aforementioned, chant-like "Tag Me (@Me)," nostalgic "Top Secret," and cutesy "Hello."
After some soundtrack work for the TV shows My Dream Is Ryan ("Boom Chi Ki") and Hello, Me! ("Wake Up"), Weeekly released their third mini-album, We Play, in March 2021. Propelled by earworm choruses and a playful pop sound, the set produced their first major international hit in the pumping "After School," which racked up over 200 million streams by year's end, partly behind the viral success of its online dance challenge. This momentum carried their fourth mini-album, August's Play Game: Holiday, to their highest chart placement to date, landing at number four on Korea's Gaon Albums Chart. Weeekly's first single album, 2022's Play Game: Awake, achieved the same number four placement the subsequent year, behind its lead single, "Ven Para." In June, IST announced Jiyoon's departure from the lineup, with the group set to promote as six members.
After a quiet hiatus through most of 2022 and 2023, Weeekly issued the single "Good Day (Special Daileee)" in September 2023, ahead of their next release. Their fifth mini-album arrived with November's ColoRise, which debuted at number eight. In 2024, the group issued another digital single in January's "Stranger" before their sixth mini-album, Bliss, arrived in July. ~ David Crone, Rovi
