UK-born but now based in Japan, Yamaneko has spent the last five years quietly captivating listeners with his uniquely atmospheric constructions released on the Local Action label, taking as many cues from the soft edges of ambient and new age music as he does the sharp angles of techno and 8-bar grime.
His debut album, 2014’s Pixel Wave Embrace was an instant cult classic, receiving rave reviews and public support from artists alike. Since then Yamaneko has performed twice on Boiler Room and released a further two albums, including Spa Commissions - a wildly popular record that collected a series of ambient pieces he was commissioned to make for European spas. Last Autumn, he debuted a new audio-visual live show to a sold-out London audience, and toured the show at select festivals.
Aside from his own releases, Yamaneko has build up a strong soundtracking portfolio: lending his music to an advert by Supreme, soundtracking a short film by Oliver Payne (shown at MoMA, The Serpentine, the Tate, Whitechapel Gallery and more) and most recently soundtracking You Can Make History, a documentary about the 2013 campaign to protect the Southbank Undercroft skatepark at London’s Southbank. He also collaborates with Mr. Mitch under the name Yaroze Dream Suite.
Yamaneko will release his fourth full-length, Spirals Heaven Wide, this November.
