Praised as a "technically proficient soloist with sparkling tone" (das Orchester) and "astonishing stylistic confidence" (Piano News), award-winning pianist-composer Zhen Chen has performed at prestigious venues worldwide, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Chicago Cultural Center, and China NCPA. His performances have been broadcast by France’s Radio Classique, Austria’s Radio Klassik, WFMT Chicago.
Recent highlights include solo performances with Chamber Orchestra Mannheim under Paul Meyer and Beethoven Philharmonie under Thomas Rösner, interpreting Mozart’s piano concertos. His acclaimed recordings of Concertos Nos. 15 & 21 were featured on Symphony.Live. Upcoming engagements include his Berliner Philharmonie debut with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra performing Gershwin’s Concerto in F, a recording with the German State Philharmonic, and a tour with the Northwest German Philharmonic playing Mendelssohn’s piano concertos.
An avid chamber musician, Chen has collaborated with Maxim Vengerov, Cho-Liang Lin, and musicians from the New York Philharmonic.
As a composer, Chen blends Eastern and Western influences in albums like ERGO (2017) and On & Between (2018), the latter winning Global Music Awards for Best Album and Best Instrumentalists.
Chen holds degrees from the Central Conservatory of Music and Manhattan School of Music. Since 2022, he has taught at Manhattan School of Music Precollege and was inducted into the Steinway & Sons Teacher Hall of Fame in 2023.
