An award-winning musician, and a celebrated expert in traditional Chinese music instrument performance
Play electric pipa in THE EITHER Band, an electronic band formed in 2017 in New York City, currently consists of Zongli (Vocal), Jiaju (Pipa), and Yang (Erhu). They are known for their unique futurism/minimalism composition style and the voices from traditional Asian instruments, that blends the likes of indie electronic, electronic rock, progressive metal and dream pop.
As innovator and pioneer in pipa revitalization, shen brings contemporary interpretation and jazz/funk/reggae flairs to traditional Chinese music. In 2015, she released the EP “Black Silk”, showcasing a strong Chinese flavor in a modern Western pop music shell. Shen has been invited to perform at Beijing Olympics, Shanghai EXPO Closing Ceremony, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, United Nations, Metropolitan Museum, Barclay’s Center and etc. As a producer and teaching artist, Jiaju has presented several high quality events, as well as many workshops for students and audience in the United States.
