biLLLy’s ascent to become one of the pioneers of DIY RnB would have seemed unlikely from a young age. His father – a keen pianist – brought him up on a diet of jazz legends Bill Evans and Thelonious Monk. That lead an eight year-old biLLLy to pick up the trumpet and classical guitar, until, armed with Prince’s album Controversy, biLLLy took up the drums as he started to develop his own taste as a teenager.

As soon as he finished his studies, the urge for exploration lead him to start his first band Wow, with a London-based Egyptian singer and his college friend in their damp warehouse in Hackney. Travelling between Cairo and London whilst throwing parties in both cities, biLLLy sculpted his craft, drawing on his skills as a multi-instrumentalist and beginning to get a grasp of production.

It left him ready to start making music on his own, and when he put out a recording of a track he wrote about his struggles with OCD, named after the prescribed drug Sertraline, he had little expectation, but blogs started taking note; Hillydilly called it "One of the most unique tracks we've heard".

Having built a reputation for throwing great parties around the infamous Hackney Vyner St art scene, Wow went on a prolonged hiatus and biLLLy started taking his own releases seriously. In the summer of 2016 people really began to take note, leading to releases via Sweat Ent and Kitsune.
