Change is a musical project born in 1979 from the collaboration between musician and producer Mauro Malavasi and producer Jacques Fred Petrus, with key contributions from Davide Romani and Paolo Gianolio. Blending European elegance with American groove, Change became a cornerstone of Soul/Disco, initially featuring the voices of Luther Vandross and Jocelyn Brown. The debut album, The Glow of Love (1980), recorded between Bologna and New York, became a global hit, reaching # 29 on the Billboard and earning a gold record. Songs like A Lover’s Holiday, Searching, and the title track made history. Between 1980 and 1985, Change released six albums and eleven hit singles. Miracles (1981), with James “Crab” Robinson on lead vocals, included Paradise, Hold Tight, and Heaven of My Life, followed by Sharing Your Love (1982) and This Is Your Time (1983). After Malavasi, Romani, and Robinson left, Petrus handed Change of Heart (1984) to Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis; the title track hit # 7 R&B. Turn on Your Radio (1985), produced with Timmy Allen, followed. Petrus’s death in 1987 ended an era. Years later, Romani produced a 1990s-influenced album, released in 2010 as Change Your Mind. In 2018, Love 4 Love marked Change’s comeback with Tanya Michelle Smith and production by Romani and Stefano Colombo. In 2025, Embrace (Change feat. Tanya Michelle Smith) continued the journey; it became a Change album after Malavasi approved its release under the “Change” name.
