Better known by his stage name Drumz formerly known as Atumpan, is a UK based musician of Ghanaian descent. Born and raised in Ghana, Atumpan is a professional English language teacher with a Bachelors Degree in Education.
The name Atumpan literally means ‘’The Talking Drum’’ which symbolizes the authoritative traditional African drum which in the past was used as a medium of communication in the dissemination of information between the ruling and the ruled especially during wars, festivals and emergencies. Atumpan as an artiste therefore sees himself as a representation of this important drum in that he carries his message across to Africa and the world at large through his powerful voice and music just as the drum does.
In August 2013, he was privileged to have signed a deal with popular British label Ministry of Sound with his Smash Hit single “TheThing” which hitherto had had over million views on youtube and was fast becoming a household anthem in the clubs and social events all over Europe. The Guardian described The Thing as “an even more obvious candidate for global hit status”. Atumpan toured the UK and got on various prestigious platform including BBC 1xtra Trevor Nelson’s Live lounge, 2013 Notting Hill Carnival (Toddler T’s Stage) and AMB/Capital Xtra Afrobeats festival at the popular at Summerset House and the popular o2 arena.
