Before the dynamic Afrobeats duo known Kwamz & Flava came to be, Kelvin Laryea and Jermaine Boateng began life in two very different corners of the world.
Born in Accra in 1991, Ghana, Laryea moved to the UK aged 6 months whilst Boateng was born and bred in London in 1991. Their paths eventually crossed at age 13 whilst attending secondary School, where the pair quickly went on to cement what would become a lifelong friendship.
However, it wasn’t until 2010 that 17 year-old Laryea and Boateng collaborated musically to create a comedic, lounge-in-cheek videophone recording of a song called “All Types of Bread”. The pair uploaded the video onto YouTube and promptly received an overwhelming influx of positive responses, and accumulated almost 300K views.
It was this unintentional foray into the limelight that led to the pair realising their passion for music and brining their brand of energy to create a positive atmosphere. It was at this point, that Afrobeats duo Kwamz & Flava was born.
