Emi fuses her bicultural background, performing in both English and Japanese. Emi debuted as a recording artist with her album Curious Creature in 2009, reaching #1 on Japan’s iTunes Jazz Charts and was crowned iTunes Japan’s best new artist. She has released 8 studio albums and has collaborated with Grammy winning Keb' Mo' for When I Lose Control and featured by Nappy Roots on End of The Night Song.
In addition to her career as a recording artist, Emi has found success as a songwriter and composer. In 2023, Emi worked with Netflix Music Lab, composer Amie Doherty (She-Hulk, Spirit Untamed) and music supervisor Gabe Hilfer to make a Japanese-language cover of Metallica’s For Whom the Bell Tolls for the Netflix adult animated series BLUE EYE SAMURAI. With blaring electric guitar and striking bell sounds contrasting the rest of the score, the performance by Meyer is a perfect match for the clashing swords and flames of the main character's journey.
