東京藝術大学出身で独自の活動を展開するクリエイター常田大希が2015年にSrv.Vinciという名前で活動を開始。その後、メンバーチェンジを経て、常田大希(Gt.Vo.)、勢喜遊(Drs.Sampler)、新井和輝(Ba.)、井口理(Vo.Key.)の4名体制へ。2017年4月26日、バンド名をKing Gnuに改名し新たなスタートをきった。
A four-piece band from Tokyo – Daiki Tsuneta (g/vo), Yu Seki (dr/sampler), Kazuki Arai (b) and Satoru Iguchi (vo/k). In collaboration with the creative agency “PERIMETRON,” King Gnu’s music videos and artworks have also gained significant attention and acclaim, establishing them as a band with a one-of-a-kind world in music, visuals, and live performances. The single “Hakujitsu” released in February 2019 became a smash hit. In 2020, their album “CEREMONY” establishrf them as one of Japan’s leading rock bands. Another milestone came when their songs “Ichizu” and “Sakayume,” the OP/ED themes for the film Jujutsu Kaisen 0, were released. From May to June 2023, they embarked on the CLOSING CEREMONY tour, a grand finale for the CEREMONY album, attracting 230,000 fans across four major outdoor stadiums in Japan. Their momentum continued with “SPECIALZ,” the OP theme for the TV anime Jujutsu Kaisen Shibuya Incident, which became a smash hit, surpassing 100 million streams in just two and a half months—making it their fastest streaming record to date. On November 29, 2023, King Gnu released their 4th album THE GREATEST UNKNOWN. From January to March 2024, they held a five-major-dome tour across Japan, followed by an Asia tour across four cities, with seven performances, drawing a total of 400,000 fans.
