Supergroups composed of technically "underground" heavy metal musicians don't come any closer to the surface of mainstream recognition than Shrinebuilder -- a project assembled by vocalist/guitarist Scott "Wino" Weinrich (<a href="spotify:artist:4YumqLcvnU9DW31AkzaviJ">the Obsessed</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:64yj4wx5kNH3NTUW0ghyxn">Saint Vitus</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:72HNVukiuzWD85BJqIKWHc">Spirit Caravan</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0tLsmd6Rv3GN3wyv4Z6VkF">the Hidden Hand</a>, and others), vocalist/guitarist <a href="spotify:artist:29GWLWzJIA7K4d9vDKI2Ek">Scott Kelly</a> of <a href="spotify:artist:1KHydwFySZY3YcWyo2q2dF">Neurosis</a> (also vocals, guitar), bassist/vocalist <a href="spotify:artist:7IGPw7LhHa9rzaE2bgERnO">Al Cisneros</a>, of <a href="spotify:artist:4Mt6w4tDGiPgV5q6JWPlrI">Sleep</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:31afRYIn9iqXKgCgHhpf9q">Om</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:6aVjo0xHSiuW5hkasoYSR3">Melvins</a> drummer <a href="spotify:artist:4IRzt4Zde0xpbbc2BtsRGm">Dale Crover</a>! That's right, "!". With their eponymous 2009 LP, the quartet commingled sonic elements drawn from all of their shared experience in heavy metal, doom, post-metal, and beyond, forging it all into five epic compositions of monolithic scope and unfathomable weight.
