The Krasnoyarsk Academic Symphony Orchestra is not afraid to take on rare classical works and loves bright experimental projects: "Extreme Classics", "Aromas of Spring", "Ice Symphony", "Cultural Capitals of the World".
The creation of the Krasnoyarsk Symphony Orchestra on the basis of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Philharmonic in 1976 became part of a large-scale campaign under the slogan "Let's turn Siberia into a land of high culture!".
Since 1978, the orchestra has been led by conductor, People's Artist of Russia Ivan Shpiller, the last pupil of Alexander Gauck. The basis of the extensive repertoire was composed of works of Russian symphonic classics. In the mid-1980s, Spiller was able to discern a future star in Dmitry Hvorostovsky, a student at the Art Institute.
In 1984, the Krasnoyarsk Symphony Orchestra gave its first concert on its own stage in the Small Concert Hall of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Philharmonic, which was created personally for Spiller, taking into account all his wishes.
Since 1989, the orchestra has been actively touring Russia and abroad (Argentina, Peru, Uruguay, Chile, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Yugoslavia, Estonia, South Korea). By order of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation in 1993, the orchestra was awarded the title "Academic" as recognition of the highest qualification, and in 2009 the Krasnoyarsk Academic Symphony Orchestra received the status of a particularly valuable cultural heritage site of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
