It all began 19 years ago and they are still going strong: Sven Hammond. Since their first live concert back in 2006, main man Sven Figee and his band of brothers have played hundreds of shows, both in their home country the Netherlands and abroad. They have so far released 7 studio albums and 5 live albums underlining their strong live reputation. Additionally the band extended to a big band and has featured as the ‘Sven Hammond Big Band’ in the Saturday night hit show ‘Matthijs Gaat Door’ on Dutch national TV for 4 seasons (40 episodes filled with music). An absolute highlight was a mega show at the Ziggo Dome for 17.000 people and TV.
Their latest live album was a recording from their concert at the famous North Sea Jazz Festival (NL-2023) celebrating the music of Ray Charles.
The latest release is their new studio album ‘Cosmic Gold’ on February 28, 2025. On this album the band collaborated with their regular singers John Harris and Jared Grant but also with American vocal powerhouse Michelle David, arranger Philip Lassiter and UK based DJ Felix Dickinson.
‘Cosmic Gold’ has brought the band into the era of disco and funk. Inspired by bands like Earth, Wind and Fire and Parliament / Funkadelic they sound more exciting than ever. Funky, exciting and very dance-able describe the new material best.
Some quotes from reviews:
‘A monument of an album’ (Maxazine)
‘A gorgeous album of an amazing band’ (Oor magazine)
‘Pure ear-candy’ (lust for life magazine)
