Tugboat Captain's new album, ‘Dog Tale’ is a record built around the multidimensional idea of home and finds chief lyricist, Sox, musing on love, dogs and life in London.
Starting off as a solo project in 2017, Tugboat Captain has morphed over eight years into one of London’s most distinct bands, with a sprawling, romantic sound that draws on folk, classical music, and baroque-pop. Now a fluctuating ensemble, the rest of Tugboat Captain are comprised of Joshua Cobb, Buddy Caderni, Georgia Mancey, Sophia Bartlett and Dougal James.
The evolution of the band’s instrumental skills has come hand-in-hand with the growth os Sox and Josh’s skills as producers/engineers, culminating in the pair opening Ctrl P, the south London studio that helped birth ‘Dog Tale’ in a single frenzied week of writing and recording. As impossible as this sounds, it’s the perfect example of the band and studio’s ethos of creating music in an atmosphere of spontaneity and creativity
From their formation, Tugboat Captain have consistently morphed and grown. From scrappy bedroom recordings, to the multi-instrumental performers they are today, they have remained true making the music they want to make, outside of the world of passing fads. With ‘Dog Tale’ they have taken yet another great leap forward, and whatever comes next is bound to be just as impressive.
