Born into a religious community that didn’t allow musical instruments, Doug Kaufman’s life took a major turn when his family left their church and bought an old upright piano. He almost immediately began playing outside the lines, improvising and adding to the music his teacher gave him. As a teenager he added guitar and percussion to his classical studies, splicing a multitrack tape recorder into his family’s pc to build a makeshift studio.
After studying composition and music production in Toronto, he moved back to his native Northeast Ohio and worked as a recording engineer before transitioning into soundtrack production.
Now working out of his studio in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, he crafts his signature brand of texturally rich music and sound design for tv series, ad campaigns, films and games.
Some of his other projects include the lush downtempo of <a href="spotify:artist:3J65VAtUTNjmg93peCqv4G" data-name="Charm Days">Charm Days</a> and collections of ambient field recordings at <a href="spotify:artist:78AbaVCF98YUf4OIEJxqAO" data-name="Watauga Sleep Institute">Watauga Sleep Institute</a>.
