Richard Luke is a multi-instrumentalist composer and producer who specialises in minimal piano, orchestral strings and synthesizers. His music is featured in film, tv and games most recently scoring the EIFF Powell and Pressburger award-winning feature film, A Cat Called Dom by Will Anderson and Ainslie Henderson, debut feature-length documentary Silent Men by Duncan Cowles and BAFTA Scotland-winning short, Betty by Will Anderson.
Richard first gained recognition as the singer-songwriter and frontman for the indie-folk-rock quintet <a href="spotify:artist:3Bf4u6r96pGx1eIbaGqfvf" data-name="Unkle Bob">Unkle Bob</a>. Their music was placed in popular film and tv dramas including Grey’s Anatomy, CSI Miami, My Sassy Girl, Kyle XY, What Happens in Vegas, Private Practice, and The Lying Game.
In February 2018, Richard released the 23-minute LP, <a href="spotify:album:7eg26AQzOCHHvWYOJ4qRFR" data-name="Voz">Voz</a> via 1631 Recordings. Co-written and performed with Scottish Chamber Orchestra violinist, <a href="spotify:artist:5OT2MSqkW7nJ1gSnKN6LQL" data-name="Amira Bedrush-Mcdonald">Amira Bedrush-Mcdonald</a> it received praise from Exclaim!, The 405, and Self-titled Magazine with the former calling it "the kind of rainy day, picturesque album that every new classical collection should include".
Tracked in a church in Glasgow’s West End, Richard’s sophomore release, <a href="spotify:album:0NOnT7vdhl632zun1Xc6xz" data-name="Glass Island">Glass Island</a> also co-written and performed with Amira Bedrush-McDonald, builds upon the minimal piano and violin of Voz by adding ambient synths, glitches and beats. Released in April 2019 through Canadian label Moderna, it explores the tensions of living on an island in the wake of referendums on leaving the EU and Scottish independence.
