“My music describes my journey,” says Kwesi Arthur. Hailing from Tema a city on the West African Coast, his work chronicles his environment.
“I feel like my music is a journal sometimes,” he explains. “Everything I feel, everything I go through, everything I see, I express it through the music.”
It’s his lyrical talent and soaring ambition that makes him particularly great, because it’s not just music he’s making, it’s hope.
Since he first burst on the scene with his 2017 hit single “Grind Day,” he’s rapidly risen to become one of the brightest stars in Ghana’s burgeoning music scene where the rapper and singer occupies an inimitable space. “With my art, however I can get my feelings across, I’m gonna express it, whether it’s through rap or melodies.”
Sonically Arthur’s music knows no limits – his blend of Highlife, Afrobeats, R&B and staunch Hip-hop makes him the perfect microcosm of contemporary Ghanaian music. And the world is paying attention. Hits like “Baajo,” “Live from 233,” and “Celebrate” and collaborations with music’s elite Sarkodie, Vic Mensa, Stormzy, Mr Eazi, Nasty C, and more, have garnered him international recognition and accolades.
