Dubbed "the Japanese <a href="spotify:artist:0L8ExT028jH3ddEcZwqJJ5" data-name="Red Hot Chili Peppers">Red Hot Chili Peppers</a>" by Japanese media and fans, OKAMOTO'S is an energetic funk-rock band from Tokyo, Japan formed by a group of friends from junior high school: <a href="spotify:artist:6Sh87t8almBljHAaBfKzaU" data-name="オカモトショウ">オカモトショウ</a> [Sho Okamoto] (vocals), <a href="spotify:artist:6feb6ezsQcTkzVJoZKkK7i" data-name="Koki Okamoto">Koki Okamoto</a> (guitar), Hama Okamoto (bass; previously collaborated with <a href="spotify:artist:1S2S00lgLYLGHWA44qGEUs" data-name="Gen Hoshino">Gen Hoshino</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:7sBtBCNVRujQhaHDODkfTN" data-name="MIYAVI">MIYAVI</a>, among others), and Reiji Okamoto (drums). Their name is tribute to the avant-garde artist Taro Okamoto and the legendary punk band <a href="spotify:artist:1co4F2pPNH8JjTutZkmgSm" data-name="Ramones">Ramones</a>, whom they both highly respect. The band made their major-label debut aged 18 years old in 2010, and have since released 9 singles and 8 albums to date.
The band cites RHCP as an important influence, along with <a href="spotify:artist:22bE4uQ6baNwSHPVcDxLCe" data-name="The Rolling Stones">The Rolling Stones</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:67ea9eGLXYMsO2eYQRui3w" data-name="The Who">The Who</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4BFMTELQyWJU1SwqcXMBm3" data-name="The Stooges">The Stooges</a>, and The Ramones. While the band members are currently staying at home, practicing social distancing and hoping everyone is safe and well, they are currently working on new songs at home and look forward to getting back on the road and performing for music-lovers all around the world.
