Sergio Battaglia is a jazz saxophonist which loves to experiment and play with other musicians on various styles of music..
He lives in Sicily and he attended the G.Verga high school in Modica, perfecting the classical technique with master Marco Caruso. He has participated in numerous national and international competitions both as a soloist and with wind orchestras.
Since 2010 he has completed studies on Afro-American music, jazz, improvisation and arrangement with master Gianpiero Fronte. He has participated in stages and masterclasses of jazz improvisation with masters Carlo Cattano, Jimmy Weinstein, Joris Teepe, Steve Altemberg, Paolino Porta, Max Ionata and others.
In 15 years of concert activity he has collaborated with various musical and theatrical realities including the musical laboratory Motukan ensemble, which, with the Adam Gez Quintet performed in 2001 at the jazz festival in Paris, the Skaramanzia band that has won numerous national competitions. In 2009 he represented Italy in Krakow in the "Day of Remembrance, a train to Auschwitz" with the Trinakant group. In 2017 he performed with the South East big band, directed by maestro Rino CirinnĂ on the occasion of the Vittoria jazz festival.
He currently works for the record labels Convivio jazz factory, Oblique Fields Record, and collaborate with various musicians.
He works at the Thelonious Jazz club in Modica, the Teatro Garibaldi foundation in Modica, the Modica Civic Philharmonic as a saxophone teacher.
